System functionality

Yoga provides one complete system to control all your buildings no matter the location or type – commercial and residential buildings can be equipped as well as any special purpose ones (hospitals, schools, etc.).

More buildings, one system
The solution is suitable for stand-alone installation for a single apartment and can also be scaled to be used in blocks of buildings e.g. to monitor and control a complete city in one system. For example, when installing Yoga IB into your corporate offices around the world, they are automatically in one system and you can manage users, security options, etc. from anywhere in the world for all the users simultaneously. The provided functionality covers the traditional 'home automation' area as well as the more complex features of Building Management System (BMS) applied to larger buildings.

Yoga IB system offers the following functionalities;

  • Climate control

    In achieving the energy efficiency of buildings, room- and presence-based climate control plays a key role:

    • the climate modes are changed according to the information about users' presence or absence in a building unit;
    • the biggest separately controllable building unit should be a single room or an area with an identical usage pattern.

    Presence-based control in each room
    Gathering the presence information in Yoga IB doesn't require any additional installations if a proper access control and security system are built in. Yoga IB, as an entire solution, seamlessly uses all the information gathered for the whole functionality, i.e. for climate control the presence or absence of people is recognized through monitoring motion detectors, door magnets, card readers etc., which are ordinary components of access and security systems. This unique feature leads to remarkable savings in installation costs and avoids buildings being overloaded with different detectors.

    Self-learning capabilities provided through Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) technology
    Simultaneous heating and air conditioning are automatically avoided with Yoga IB. As senseless as it may sound, a great deal of energy is consumed in buildings by the contradictory work of heating and cooling systems that are not efficiently synchronized or are manually overdriven into inapplicable settings. In Yoga IB, the heating and cooling devices are controlled by one central system that avoids contradictions.

    Besides directly simultaneous operation, alternating work times of heating and cooling in a too narrow time frame wastes energy. Therefore a certain dead zone between heating and cooling set points always has to be established, but both comfort and efficiency can be difficult to achieve due to very different characteristics of buildings. This is a much easier goal for the self-learning and continuously adapting Yoga IB Climate Control, which is based on a highly innovative neural networks technology.
    The self-learning capability automatically adjusts the climate control to each room’s energy characteristics, i.e. an installer doesn’t have to consider the building’s construction parameters (room size, heating inertia etc.) or calculate the appropriate static control characteristics – these issues are dynamically solved and fine-tuned in real time by a neural network solution.
    This primary quality of Yoga IB remarkably reduces system adjustment time and guarantees maximum energy savings and constant fine-tuning of the climate control algorithm.

  • Light control

    Similar to climate control, the intelligent control of lighting affects savings in energy and money, not just retaining, but remarkably increasing people's comfort and safety by providing an appropriate amount of light exactly when and where needed.

    The Yoga IB system controls lighting according to daylight levels, presence of people, date and time, room by room. Unnecessary lighting is switched off or dimmed down. Recognized movements automatically initiate proper lighting only if sufficient daylight is not present. According to weekday or daytime needs, different settings and conditions (light level, soft-start, switch off delays etc.) can be configured for presence or absence, motion or transfers. The Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) technology is being implemented in light control in order to provide self-learning capabilities as an innovative improvement to daylight harvesting functionality.

    In Yoga IB there's no need for any additional installations for occupancy detection if the proper access control and security system are present. In an entire system, any motion detector, door magnet or card reader can initiate the lighting of a room, area or work desk as needed. In the same manner, the arming of a room or the approach of a certain time limit (if no users are present) results in switching all lights off or any other specified action with no extra steps taken by the user.

    The energy-saving potential of automatic light control depends a great deal on user profiles, the number of people present and the availability of daylight, but every office, hotel, museum or any other building can achieve significant energy savings.

  • Access control

    Yoga IB includes built-in professional access control functionality which, besides allowing and prohibiting access, provides presence and location information for registering people’s movements and for controlling lighting and climate.

    Having a built-in access control system ability means that, with Yoga IB, there’s no need to integrate a separate control system, as all connections to lighting and climate control are done in the software just by defining the rules.
    An unlimited number of doors, turnstiles, gates, etc. can be part of the whole system, and each of them can be set for separate security levels and access rights. All of them are monitored in real time and a feedback of 'door forced' or 'too long open' time, and even the position of the lock tongue, can be viewed immediately.
    Completely tied with the security system functions, entrances can be blocked while an area is armed, and free access can be granted as defined by different time profiles.

    Possible identification means are standard RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), fingerprint, PIN (Personal Identification Number) code, phone number, password, certificate, or any of these in various combinations.

    Separate access times for disabled people, freely adjustable PIN code length, elevator control, customer counting and real time graphic overview of all accesses are only a few of the wide functions available. Although a basic working time calculation is available as a standard feature, a more advanced and company specific solution can easily be implemented, based on the same log information used through an open and documented API (Application Programming Interface).

  • Security system

    Yoga IB essentially includes a professional alarm system function that provides burglary or fire alarms to customers, their security partners and/or other involved parties. Being a part of the core function, the security system in Yoga IB is not limited by the number of created links to other parts of the control system. In Yoga IB, any data gathered by the security system (e.g. presence information) may initiate processes besides the main security purpose, for example in lighting or climate control. Also the other direction of information exchange can create additional amenities. These qualities make new levels of safety and comfort features possible in a building at no extra cost.

    Full multi-tenancy across all areas in a system allows the flexible sharing of user rights over the whole building and also simplifies area management for large buildings. In cases where motion detectors would otherwise not be planned for security purposes, installing them for energy management provides additional security information as well.

    The basic functionality embraces the following alarm types:

    • Security alarms: burglary, fire, panic, tamper, hold-up and duress
    • Access control alarms: forced opening and too long open time
    • Alarms from any equipment through digital or analogue inputs (including pulse and customer counters)
    • Climate alarms: temperature or humidity exceeding allowed range, or function not providing expected results
    • Technical alarms: lost connections with server, main controller and modules and other technical failures
    • Alarm transmission: programmable outputs (PGM) to wired and wireless modem and Contact ID over IP
  • Remote metering

    A remote metering function is available in the system and has its own role to play in creating comfort, as well as in increasing energy efficiency. It provides clear information about which resources form the biggest part of a building’s consumption and which may possibly be optimized. Pointing out resource consumption in a building, compared to earlier periods or statistical averages, helps to identify the biggest consumers and discover possible wasteful behavior. Remote meter reading and monitoring raises the awareness of owners, tenants and operators and leads to more responsible energy behavior.

    While for a private resident remote meter reading is mainly an additional comfort, for a real estate operator it can be a major question of productivity if the metering data can be gathered and forwarded automatically and on schedule. With Yoga IB Remote Meter Reading, there is no need for regular visits to cellars or above ceilings for meter readings – this data is available on screen and online.
    Remote reading with Yoga IB doesn’t require additional software or hardware; standard meters with pulse outputs can be connected and have their data forwarded online.

  • Multimedia control

    The integrated multimedia control in Yoga IB allows you to take control over all your multimedia devices in and around the building. All device that can be controlled by RS232 can be connected with the Yoga system with just a few simple configurations, which can be done by everyone, everywhere. Multimedia like TV's Blue-ray players etc. can be switched on/off according to different modes and can be totally controlled over web by using web-interfaces, smartphones (iPhone) or IPTV.
    The limitations in connecting and controlling multimedia are only defined by the technological features of the multimedia devices.

  • Smart appliances control

    All controllable devices can be integrated in Yoga IB over powerline or web server. Yoga IB can control dishwashers, washing machines, ovens and other controllable devices to be switched on/off, pause and all other actions that are supported by the used devices.
    All integrated devices are connected to smart grid and the extra services and opportunities that comes along with that.

    Th smart grid connection allows users to raise energy awareness and act directly to save energy by controlling smart appliances. Dynamic tariff information is provided to users and according to the user-defined preferences, home appliances (e.g. fridges, air conditioners, washing machines, etc.) factory processes and other devices are targeted to consume energy during recommended tariff zones. That enables to even the load of the grid bringing better reliability and save money for the end-users willing to contribute. 
    The limitations in connecting and controlling smart appliances are only defined by the technological features of the smart appliances.
